Amos M. Barton, 87, Moore, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, January 19th, 2023 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born in Stockton, CA to Amos H. & Ella C. Barton on March 13, 1935. Amos was raised in El Reno Ok. When Amos was growing up he was active in football, fastpitch softball, and school activities. Amos graduated from El Reno High School in 1954.
Amos was a very patriotic young man and was ready to serve his country. He was so excited to join the Army that he finagled a way to enlist in the Army National Guard when he was only 17. While in ANG he was trained in electronics and communications. He also was schooled in being a chef/cook and was in charge of the mess hall for a time. Amos later joined the Army Reserve and retired from the Reserves in the early 1980’s. He was proud of his service and loved his country with all of his heart.

Amos met the love of his life, Thelma Jo Abbott, in 1955. The two married in Oklahoma City on Dec 24, 1955 and they were blessed with 3 sons, Terry, Tim, Kendal; & one daughter, Kim. Amos was a family man and raising his children in a Christ centered home was of the utmost importance to him. Amos was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather & his greatest joys came from spending time with his family.

In 1958 Amos began working for Western Electric plating payphone equipment. Western Electric became AT&T which blossomed into a 33 year career. He retired and was able to spend time traveling and focusing on family & worshiping the Lord.

The Barton’s were longtime members at Southern Hills Baptist Church and made great memories together serving their Lord. Amos sang with the Senior Adult Choir until his health declined within the last few years. He enjoyed singing White Christmas at Villagio Assisted Living the last two Christmases.

Although he is no longer on this earth, Amos’ spirit will live on through the stories end memories his family hold close to their hearts.
