Obituary for Betty Phia Black

Betty Phia Black, age 92, went to be with her Heavenly father on Sunday, February 20, 2022. The daughter of James and Lula Smith, she was born on August 30, 1929, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She grew up attending schools in the Capital Hill area and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1947. In 1953, she married her sweetheart, Bill Black, and shared 19 years together. This union of marriage was blessed with four children. In addition to being a devoted mother, Betty Phia also worked as an Executive Secretary at FAA for many years before her retirement from federal civil service in 1997. She was very passionate about serving Jesus and will be remembered as a devoted Christian woman. Betty Phia loved to read, do word puzzles, and play board games with her children and grandchildren … and she loved chocolate. She loved and cared deeply for her family and worked many jobs to provide for them. She will be held close to our hearts each day.

She was preceded in death by her:
Parents, James and Lula Smith;
Siblings, Chester Smith and Bernice Chesnut;
stillborn Infant twins.
Father of her children, Bill Black.

She leaves behind her loving family:
Daughter, Sherri Emitte and husband, Mike of Surprise Arizona;
Daughter, Brenda Black of Oklahoma City;
Son, Rick Black of Oklahoma City;
Son, Robert Black of Oklahoma City;
9 Grandchildren;
13 Great Grandchildren;
Several nieces, nephews, cousins and many other extended family & friends.
