Obituary for Gean Black

Eva Gean Black, age 92, passed away on June 7th, 2022. Born in Oden, Arkansas, on April 8th, 1930, she was one of eight children (Clyde, Ray, Ruth, Fred, Ruby, Eva Gean, Irene, and Nancy) to Elijah Spurling and Amanda Wilhite Spurling.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, William Truman (W.T.) Black and son, David Wayne Black, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Campbell (husband, Christopher), one granddaughter Audrey Campbell, and daughter in law Sherry Black. Gean and her husband Truman moved to Oklahoma City in 1951as newlyweds to find work. They eventually bought a home on south side Oklahoma City and had one son and one daughter. She was a homemaker and gardener who loved to share her fresh vegetables with friends and neighbors. Most importantly, she loved to share her faith with others which included teaching Sunday school for 44 years. She was known as an avid prayer warrior and always had a list of people she was praying for. She believed nothing was too small or insignificant to pray about. Gean’s faith journey began at Mt. Olive Baptist church in Oden, Arkansas. After moving to Oklahoma City, she attended Grace Baptist church for 40 years. Her final years were spent at Hillcrest Heights Baptist church. She deeply cared for her Hillcrest Heights Baptist church brothers and sisters. Gean’s family is eternally grateful for their kindness and love to her.

Services will be at Vondel L Smith & Son at 6934 S Western Ave on 06-11-2022 at 2:30 pm. Graveside services and burial will be at Murphy Baptist Church Cemetery on 06-13-2022 at 11 am.
Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Vondel Smith Mortuary.
