Obituary for Evan Griffith Gerfen (Griffith)

Evan Leigh (Griffith) Gerfen passed away peacefully in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Saturday March 4th, 2023 at the age of 61.

Evan was born to David and Dorothy (Nething) Griffith in South Bend, Indiana, on April 26 th , 1961. She learned to play the piano at an early age and diligently developed her talent, becoming an accomplished pianist in high school. She played with the South Bend Youth Symphony and accompanied the Clay High School Swing Choir, continuing her musical learning at the University of Notre Dame. In addition, she sang in the church choir at First Presbyterian and played violin. She was active in Camp Fire and Rainbow Girls. She graduated from Clay High School in South Bend in 1979 and moved with her parents to Oklahoma City.

Evan attended college in Texas and Oklahoma, ultimately earning an Associate degree from Oklahoma State University. She worked in a variety occupations over the years, ranging from roles in the restaurant and hospitality industry to administrative office positions. She was very flexible, personable, and a quick learner. She delighted in roles where she could be of service to people. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City where she greatly enjoyed singing in the choir.

Evan was a 30+ year cancer survivor, miraculously recovering from a brain tumor that was generally
considered to be fatal. She regularly volunteered at the Integris Cancer Centers and helped coordinate
the annual Relay for Life and Celebration of Life events in Oklahoma City.

On September 30th , 1993 she married Curtis Gerfen in Durango, Colorado. They resided in Oklahoma City with their dog.

Evan was a fun-loving, optimistic, outgoing free spirit who always strove to make people feel welcome and happy. She liked being outdoors, enjoying fishing, archery, cycling, and golf. She liked browsing through antique stores and estate sales, occasionally picking up an interesting item. She was a great fan of Notre Dame and OSU football and a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her husband Curtis Gerfen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, her former husband Russ
Reagan of Edmond, OK, her brother Morgan Griffith and his wife Caren of Vevay, Indiana, her sister
Megan Newberry and her husband Wes of Edmond, Oklahoma, her niece and nephews Myles Griffith,
Dylan Griffith, Chaz Newberry, Kayla Newberry, and Cody Newberry, and many grand-nieces, grand-
nephews, and cousins.

Evan was a loving sister, wife, and a friend to many. She will be greatly missed, but remembered with
love, admiration, and fondness.
