Obituary for Jerry William Baxter

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 3, 2023 at the South Lakes Chapel. (4000 SW 119th St) with burial following at Heritage Burial Park located on the property.

Jerry William Baxter passed away on January 30, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 8, 1948 in Wynnewood Oklahoma. After graduating from Moore high school in 1966, Jerry was drafted into the US Army where he served a tour in Vietnam. For many years Jerry was a truck driver with Fox-Smythe Transport Company until his retirement in 2000. After retiring, he began raising cattle and baling hay, which was a career he loved very much. He loved to farm, working in his shop, and he loved his family. He was talented in many ways, enjoyed working with his hands, and could fix almost anything. Jerry was proud to have served on the board of the Veterans Corner Inc. as the treasurer and founding member. On December 27 of 1996 Jerry married Joan Manning and the two established their home together in Oklahoma City. Jerry was a wonderful husband, son and father who will be forever in our hearts. He was preceded in death by his father William Baxter. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Joan, sons: Dustin Baxter of OKC; Jay Buck & wife Lorri of Highland, Illinois; Daughter, Jamie Buck of Midwest City; his mother Leoma Baxter; sister Linda Miatech & husband Phil of Richmond, TX; nephews, Jeff Lyles, Greg Lyles, Philip Miatech; niece Jennifer Miatech; uncle Melvin Mathis; grandchildren Taylor Baxter, Sam Buck, Olivia Buck; his granddog Walter; as well as numerous cousins & friends.
