Jim Bowers, Sr, passed away surrounded by his family at his home on Jan 12, 2023. The son of Eula & Ray Bowers, Jim was born on July 26, 1934 in Tuttle, Oklahoma. After graduating from Tuttle High School in 1952, Jim attended OSU where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Jim married the love of his life, Devota “Bo” McCarthey on July 28, 1956 in Tuttle. Together they shared more than 66 wonderful years of marriage, family & fun. They were blessed with two children, Jim Jr. and Desree. He was a dedicated member of Oakcrest Church of Christ and loved serving the Lord.

Jim had three successful careers, as a banker at First Western Savings & Loan, a MAI real estate appraiser, real estate investor and home builder. Jim was always deeply involved in the south Oklahoma City community, serving over the years on the South OKC YMCA board, the South OKC Chamber of Commerce, the Southwest Medical Center Board and the Mayor’s Advisory Council. Jim also served 10 years on the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission and was an avid Rotarian.

The Bowers are very much a family - working together in the family home building business, laughing together, and worshiping together. Mr. Bowers was the Godly leader of the family and the source of wisdom and humor (lots of humor). God and family were always first. The family shares a very special bond thanks to Jim & this bond extended to Paige, Ashton & Trey, his grand kids.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Kerri Matlock who made Jim’s last year the best it could be and to the Saint Anthony’s nurses and hospice staff, especially Ms. Kim, for their amazing help.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Jake Cobble & D.L. “Hunk” Cobble; and two sisters: Helen Greenroyd & Maxine Jeffries.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Devota “Bo” Bowers; son, Jimmy Ray Bowers, Jr. & wife, Lisa; daughter, Desree Parrack & husband, Jim; grandchildren: Dr. Paige Parrack, MD, Ashton Nickell & husband Andrew; Jimmy Ray “Trey” Bowers, III.
