She also leaves behind her brother Glenn Alden Hatter (wife Letty), Sister-in-law Patsy Hatter, Brother-in-law Roger Darr, as well as many cousins and extended family members.
Her life journey took her from Fay, Oklahoma to Newark, Missouri in 1950, where she attended one room schools, (Nelson Rural and Newark School) before returning to Oklahoma in 1961, where she graduated From Capitol Hill High School (Class of 1965). Lorene was baptized on July 4, 1962, and as she put it, began her most important vocation. On August 21, 1964, she was united in marriage to Loye Gene Cox in Wellington, Texas, but returned to Oklahoma City to make their home and raise their kids.
Lorene’s Work experiences included John A Brown in Capitol Hill, St Anthony Hospital, Standard Life & Accident Insurance Company, First Life Assurance Company , C.L. Frates, Convergys and a brief, but fun, stent as a Census Taker. In retirement, she supported multiple individuals and their loved ones who lived with Dementia/Alzheimer’s and/or under hospice care. All work was seen only as opportunities to serve others, reflecting the light and love of our Creator.
Lorene’s work didn’t define who she was though. First and foremost, she was a Follower of Jesus. She worked hard for her husband and kids. Her example is a lesson for each of us.
Lorene made life-long friends wherever she went. Whether it was at home, at play, at work or at church. Where others made friends, she made relationships. I think that’s why she loved going every chance she had. As far as she was concerned, there was nothing like a “road trip”. She was always up for an adventure, whether it was a fall foliage tour, a get-away with Tea-Travelers, or a special with her friends, she always enjoyed and looked forward to those occasions.
Grammy enjoyed her grandkids and cherished every opportunity she had to be with them. Whether it was snuggling, baking, going to the park, or even a short day trip with whichever grandkid she had at her disposal. No opportunity went to waste, with
“No Bakes” being made less than two weeks ago! She loved her grandkids and was so proud of each and every one of them.
Mom looked past the faults of her kids. She chose rather to look for their strengths and point them out to them even when they didn’t see it themselves. She made all her kids feel loved and appreciated for who they were, accepting each of their strengths and weaknesses. She prayed constantly for her children, their spouses, her grandkids, and countless others.
As a wife, she loved her husband, Loye Cox. Even though things were rocky at times, the two of them continued to worship together, attend family functions together, as well as take the occasional family portrait together. They never gave up and, in the end, finding forgiveness with one another. Giving that lasting lesson, that until it is, it’s never too late!
Her home was always open to others. There are many who came to stay. Some for days, some for weeks and some for months. And for some, its as if they never left. They are part of the family and she loved them dearly. They know who they are. And each of them has their own story to tell.
Lorene will be dearly missed by her family and her friends!
