Obituary for Mattie Lee Havens (Kimbrell)

Mattie Lee Havens, 78, of Monument, Colorado, entered the heavenly presence of the Lord on May 28, 2022. Mattie was born in Ruleville, MS on December 28, 1943, to James Virgil and Ruby Lee (Taylor) Kimbrell. She was the third of four children. She married Robert Earl Woods in 1959. For more than 50 years, Mattie was a Beauty Operator who served clients in Mississippi, Florida, Oklahoma, and Colorado. Her career as a hairdresser was one where she found tremendous joy. She worked not only to address her client’s hair care needs but also to bring smiles, comfort, and support to them as well. Mattie became a great friend to many of her clients and was rewarded very richly by the close friendships she made with fellow hairdressers, as well. Mattie was also an accomplished seamstress, dressmaker, and homemaker whose attention to detail and commitment to excellence shined through in everything she created. Mattie dearly loved her family, gardening, her dog (Happy), and above all her lord and savior, Jesus Christ. She found much satisfaction in the company of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as plucking treasures and treats from her flower beds and vegetable gardens to bring homegrown enjoyment and nourishment to her family and friends. Mattie was a faithful member of Monument Hill Baptist Church and was grateful for the fellowship and comfort her friends-in-faith there provided her. Mattie was preceded in death by husband, William (Bill) Martin Rutledge; husband Woodrow (Woody) Wilson Havens, Jr; former husband, Robert Earl Woods; her parents, and two brothers, Danny Ray Kimbrell and Virgil Odon Kimbrell. Mattie is survived by son John Wesley Woods and wife, Tracie, of Monument, CO; son George Robert Woods and wife, Cindy, of Radford, VA; grandson, Kael Woods and wife, Jacquelyn, of Colorado Springs, CO; grandson Schylar Woods and wife, Lindsey, of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughter Hali Woods of New York, NY; granddaughter Meredith Woods of Radford, VA; grandson Kenny Woods of Radford, VA; granddaughter Madeline Berg of Monument, CO; great-grandson Wesley Woods; great-grandson Easton Woods; great-granddaughter Kaelie Woods; brother Jimmy Dale Kimbrell of Grenada, MS; nephews Dale and Jesse Kimbrell of Grenada, MS; stepdaughter Diana Bledsoe and husband, Gary, of Blanchard, OK; stepson Bruce Havens of Blanchard, OK; step-granddaughter Megan Bledsoe of Norman, OK; stepgranddaughter Jennifer Lane of Blanchard, OK; step-granddaughter Shauna Edmonds of Blanchard, OK and a host of other family and friends. Her best friend, Nancy Potter of Midwest City, OK, was a constant source of love, comfort, laughs, adventure, and sisterhood for many, many years and Mattie cherished their connection until the time of her passing.
