Obituary for Pauline "Pauly" Cable
Pauline "Pauly" (Palmer ) Cable, 78, of Oklahoma City passed away Friday, March 3rd, 2023 in Oklahoma City. Pauly was born in Santa Rosa, CA on October 21, 1944 to Charles and Viola Palmer. After the war, her family relocated to Duluth, Minnesota until a job offer opened up in 1958 that brought the whole family now including siblings, Sandra and Joel, to Oklahoma City, OK.
Pauly graduated from Putnam City high School in 1962 and went on to attend OCU where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in English and French Literature. She would later receive her Master’s in English from UCO and a Master’s in Library Science from OU.
During those years at OCU, She met her future husband, Ronald Marion Cable, when they were both participating in the Freshman Follies that the Greek Community hosted annually. Ron finally was able to convince Pauly to marry senior year after a vow that she would be able to finish her studies. The wedding was on 12/19/65 in the schools chapel as the church they were attending, Prince of Peace Lutheran, was still being built. The community at Prince of Peace was invaluable to Pauly when she was growing up. So many of the ladies stepped up and helped her when her own mother was sick with a chronic illness. They watched as the family grew to four with the addition of Ron Jr in 1969 and Jennifer in 1971. Ron and Pauly stayed at Prince of Peace until it folded and then moved to Trinity Lutheran in South OKC. They found a renewal of spirit at Trinity and found many new friends and some of the old from POP had moved there as well. Pauly said it was like finding your most comfortable shoes again in the back of your closet. It was a perfect fit. Pauly was married to Ronald Marion Cable, Sr. for 43 years and found support and kindness from Trinity when Ron passed. Pauly was a loving wife, mother, and wonderful grandmother. She loved serving the Lord and her church family at Prince of Peace Lutheran & Trinity Lutheran were very dear to her. She also enjoyed getting together with her friends for Red Hat Society meetings and also made great memories with her Book Club pals.
Pauly started her teaching career at Roosevelt Middle School and after that first year decided that Middle school wasn’t her calling. Her own children came along and she concentrated staying at home and raising the kids until they were ready for school themselves. She started teaching again at Moore High School and stayed there for 24 years. Her work colleagues kept her in good spirits, good advice and solace when things got tough. She often spoke of admiration for them.
Mom was able to be the calm in the storm for so many. She had a warm heart, quick smile and good advice if it was needed. She listened without judgment and always encouraged you to reach a little bit more. Education was very important to her especially for women. Two bits of advice were hard learned personally by her. 1) I don’t care if you are a housewife for the rest of your days but you will be an educated housewife. 2) Get your profession in order before you have kids. You can plan to be the most committed spouse in the most loving marriage but God may have other plans. Those left standing had better be able to handle the dreams you have for your children.
Pauly was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ron, Sr. and niece Katherine Ramer. She is survived by her children son Dr Ronald Cable Jr, his wife Latricia and their children Colton, Ryan and Brooklyn. Daughter Jennifer Prater and her son Noah Prater. Brother Joel Palmer, his wife Billye and their boys Joe and Jason, Jason’s wife Jana and their daughter Julia. Sister, Dr. Sandra Ramer and husband Dr. Glenn Ramer, and their Daughter Stephanie, Her husband Bryan Hurd and the boys James, Andrew and Charlie.
