Phil passed from this life on December 19, 2022 surrounded by his family, he was born in Oklahoma City to William Philip & Vada Pauline (Hill) Burgess. Phil was raised on the Burgess family farm on the far south side of Oklahoma City in the area of 119th & Portland. This land was originally owned by Phil’s’ grandfather William Henry (Dutch) Burgess and his grandmother Lorna Earlywine Burgess. Earlywine Park was named for her family. As a teenager and later into his twenties, Phil was a competitive dirt bike racer and won many trophies and awards. He graduated from Moore High School class of 1959 and continued his education at Oklahoma City University where he studied business.

Growing up, Phil continued farming and ranching on the family farm with his dad and later on his own, even while working in the business world. Phil worked primarily for Standard Steel and Unistrut, starting in sales and working his way to project manager and eventually to management.

In 1995, Phil went out on his own and started a specialty subcontracting company called Burgess Company. Under his leadership, Burgess Company became a respected and well-known member of the construction business that eventually expanded to Tulsa. During this time, Phil was an active member of the Associated General Contractors of Oklahoma and was also President of the American Subcontractors Association of Oklahoma.

Phil married Crystal Boren at Antioch Christian Church in Oklahoma City, and they were married nearly 40 years.

Phil was an avid OU fan and a member of the Boomer Club, as well as Belmar Country Club where he loved to play golf. Phil was also one of the first barefoot skiers in Oklahoma, and he loved the lake life. His most cherished times were spending time with Crystal and their family and friends, boating, beaching, landscaping and playing golf at Lake Texoma.
Phil will be remembered for his commitment to his family, as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. For all his accomplishments in life, his family was his most proud accomplishment.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents and he is survived by his wife Crystal, daughter Lori Priess and her husband Randy, his son William Philip Burgess and his wife Andra; four grandchildren, Paige Priess and Brook Burgess, Cristopher Priess and his wife Kelsey and Josh Burgess; three great-grandchildren, Landon Priess, Brantley and Oakley Burgess; and his sister Paula Cook.
