Obituary for Pramod Malhotra Nanda

Pramod M. Nanda was born in Ferozepur, India on January 24, 1936. She completed this life peacefully at home in Oklahoma City on March 10, 2023. She was the daughter of an army medical doctor, who served in the Second World War with British forces in North Africa. She was raised by her mother and older brother while her father was deployed in the military.

After she completed a master's degree in English, she married the love of her life, Dr. Ram Sarup Nanda, in 1957. Ram and Pramod moved to Lucknow, India where Ram served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthodontics at King George Medical and Dental College. From the start, their marriage was a partnership. From helping Ram's siblings and parents get on their feet after partition, to raising three young children, to promoting Ram's sparkling professional career, she was the driving force in the family's success.

In 1972, Ram was offered the opportunity to return to the United States (where he had previously received his postgraduate dental training and PhD), to help start a new dental school at the University of Oklahoma. In what was a risky move in mid-life after achieving significant professional success in India, the couple embraced this opportunity and began a new life together in Oklahoma City. She completed a second master's degree at the University of Oklahoma in speech pathology in 1974. Ram achieved national and international fame for his research and teaching while he served as the Professor and Chairman of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry from 1972 to 2007. Pramod nurtured her husband's career from beginning to end. Their 65 year marriage was full of love and devotion for each other. She encouraged her children's and grandchildren's academic success giving them the confidence to reach their fullest potential. She forged deep friendships in our community and was the founder of the India Association of Oklahoma.

She had the knack of reading people well and comforting them. She had extraordinary charm, wit, and grace. She had an elegant smile, and a happy disposition. We will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers. She is survived by her husband Ram, daughter Dr. Ruchi Nanda, sons Dr. Mohit Nanda(Vandana) and Dr. Sumit Nanda(Sumeeta), grandchildren Dr. Munisha Nanda (German Luezas), Dr. Vikrum Nanda (Patricia), Dr. Anjali Nanda, Dr. Sonali Nanda, Dr. Asha Nanda, Arjun Nanda, Jaya Nanda, Aria Nanda, and great grandchildren Gia Luezas, Niam Luezas, Neil Nanda, and Sean Nanda.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday March 18th at 4 pm at the hall of the Hindu Temple of Oklahoma, 7200 N. Coltrane Rd. Oklahoma City, OK 73121.
