Obituary for Richard Sherwood Allen

The family will greet visitors from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary on South Western Avenue in Oklahoma City.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma with Earl McMillan officiating. Burial will follow. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Allen, Brad Wentworth, Fox Wood, Cade Harkins, Justin McAlpine and Matt Orr.

Richard Sherwood Allen, 69, of Oklahoma City, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Richard was born on August 8, 1953, in Oklahoma City to Rose (Kaipo) and William Allen. He attended Putnam City High School. Richard joined the Army in 1970 and served until 1971. While in the Army, he was assigned to work on tanks. Once Richard received his honorable discharge, he started his career as a counselor for the Department of Corrections. He then went to receive a total of four Associates Degrees from Oklahoma City Community College. He married Paula Peninger in 1982. Together they had a daughter, ReAnna Allen. Richard worked in constructive ways by framing houses as well as performing various electrical and carpentry work. In his later years, he was employed as a maintenance worker for Thousand Oaks Apartments in Oklahoma City with his good friend, Ronnie, from 2014 until 2023. Richard loved his family and shared an unbreakable bond with his two brothers, “Bob” and Russell. He enjoyed the outdoor activities including fishing, riding Sea-Doos, camping, taking care of his vehicles, and going four-wheeling, especially around the Little Sahara State Park. Richard will be missed for all the love and care he gave into this world.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Rose (Kaipo) and William Allen, his brothers: Russell Kevin Allen and Robert “Bob” William Allen, and his nephew: Cody Allen.

Richard is survived by his daughters: ReAnna Allen of Oklahoma City, Autumn Wood and husband, Fox of Yukon; his son: Sean and his wife of Arvada, Colorado; his former wife: Paula Peninger of Oklahoma City; his granddaughters: Lyric Rogers of Topeka, Kansas, Disney Cain and fiancé, Cade Harkins of Wilburton, Jakelyn Wood, Skye Wood, and Winter Wood, all of Yukon, as well as two grandchildren of Arvada, Colorado; his nieces: Lea McAlpine and husband, Justin of Choctaw, Krystal Orr and husband, Matt of Yukon, and Megan Allen and fiancé, Brandon of Oklahoma City; his nephews: Kevin Allen of Oklahoma City, Brad Wentworth of Moore; his great-nieces and great-nephews: Cole Bounds, Kate Orr, Parker Orr, Keizer Ferree, and Dakota Ferree; his sisters-in-law: Judy Allen of Oklahoma City and Lecia Thurber of Oklahoma City; and his good friend: Ronnie Benjock of Oklahoma City; along with numerous other family members and friends.
