Vernette Leigh Tawater passed from this life on January 15, 2022. Born to James Robert and Naomi (Stevens) Tawater on September 15, 1961 in Ft. Worth, TX, she completed the family as the fourth child. From a young age she loved to be around animals big and small. In high school she persuaded her dad to allow her to ride bulls. He agreed, but only if her big brother, Randy, put her on. She loved it.
On September 7, 1978, Vernette married her high school sweetheart, William Thomas Pittman. She followed Tom around the world as he served in the United States Air Force. They welcomed two daughters, Randee and Lacee. Vernette loved being a mom, and served in the home sacrificially during Tom’s military career.
As the girls grew older, Vernette returned to her education and completed training as a medical assistant as Valedictorian. She worked in several family practice clinics and was proud of her long awaited and hard earned degree. After 16 years of marriage, Tom and Vernette went separate ways, and Vernette returned to Ft. Worth to be close to her family.
Vernette loved being a part of everyday life with her sister, Valeri, nieces, and life long friend, Betty, in Ft. Worth. She enjoyed game nights, crafting, playing with her local great nephews, the Tucker and Bain boys, and living in the great state of Texas. Reconnecting with high school friends, she met with the 80s Ladies regularly. Vernette always loved battling with her sister, Vickie, in online games. Throughout her life, Vernette had a special bond with her two younger siblings, Tiffany and Chance, and was thrilled to reconnect again in adulthood. Forever the baby sister, she took every chance to be near her older brother, often hitting golf balls in his pasture. But Vernette’s greatest delight was in being Nana Nette. She loved being a grandma and took special care in noticing small details and giving the most thoughtful gifts. She was the biggest cheerleader for her girls and grandkids. She will be so deeply missed.
Vernette Leigh Tawater was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Naomi Tawater, her beloved brother-in-law, Micheal Blair, and, by only a few weeks, William Thomas Pittman, her damn good friend. She is survived by daughters Randee Tomlinson and husband, Stephen, of Oklahoma City, OK, Lacee Ernst and husband, Robert, of Wichita Falls, TX, sister, Valeri Blair of Ft. Worth, brother Randy (Rooster) Tawater and Shannon of Justin, TX, sister Vickie Pittman and husband Terry, of Paden, OK, honorary sister, Betty Smith and husband Charlie of Ft. Worth, grandchildren Cash Luken Ernst, Tieghan Kole and Delaney Reese Tomlinson, as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Services to celebrate her life will be held at North Fort Worth Baptist Church on January 20, 2022 at 1:00.
