Wanda Louise (Brumley) Petete received her Heavenly reward on January 2, 2023. She left us while sleeping peacefully at her assisted living home in Norman, Oklahoma. Wanda lived 89 years of a beautiful life. Wanda was born in Mena Arkansas on September 15, 1933 as the eldest daughter of Walter Carl and Gwendolyn Logan Martin Brumley. As a child, Wanda lived in several cities in Arkansas and Oklahoma, settling with her parents in Holdenville, Oklahoma when she was in high school. She was a cheerleader at Holdenville High School, and an active member of the First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Wanda met her one true love, Theo L. Petete, while working at a theater in Holdenville. As she liked to tell everyone, while giggling, “He was so tall that it scared me at first, but I fell hard for him once I finally agreed to go out with him”. Wanda married Theo on June 21, 1953, and together, shared more than 64 years of blissful marriage raising their children, James and Patricia, and enjoying time with her only grandson, Kyle. As a U.S. Military couple, she and Theo lived in numerous states, her favorite being Hawaii. Wanda lived a full life centered around her family, and close friends. Wanda was a 5th generation great-granddaughter of Colonel Daniel Boone, enjoyed exploring her ancestry, and sharing stories of her life. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, known for her caring spirit, big heart, loving nature and contagious smile. Wanda enjoyed life in the company of others, and people, especially children, enjoyed being around her. Everyone loved “Aunt Wanda Darling”. She loved doing ceramics, square dancing, reading the Bible, cooking for others, being involved with her children’s activities and singing songs from all genres. She was a proud military wife, exceptional homemaker, and cherished friend. She was a loving mother, devoted wife, doting grandmother, and an Angel on Earth who will be dearly missed, and is forever in our hearts. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Beverly Anne Keller. She is survived by her son, James Edward Petete; daughter, Patricia Anne Petete; grandson, Kyle James Petete; numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews as well as a host of other family and friends.
